Neotoma with Continue
Continue is an open-source AI code assistant for VS Code and JetBrains. It supports MCP servers via ~/.continue/config.json, which makes connecting it to Neotoma straightforward.
Install Neotoma
npm install -g neotoma
neotoma init
neotoma auth login
Auto-configure with neotoma setup
neotoma setup --tool continue --yes
This writes the Neotoma MCP server entry into ~/.continue/config.json and verifies the connection. Reload your IDE window after setup completes.
Manual configuration
If you prefer to configure manually, add to ~/.continue/config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"neotoma": {
"command": "neotoma",
"args": ["mcp", "stdio"],
"env": {}
}
}
}
Use the absolute path to neotoma if the binary is not on PATH from your IDE's launch environment (which neotoma to find it).
Remote access
To connect Continue to a remote or tunneled Neotoma instance:
neotoma api start --env prod --tunnel
Then use the URL transport in config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"neotoma": {
"url": "https://<tunnel-host>/mcp"
}
}
}
See tunnel for the full tunnel setup guide.
Verify the connection
After reloading, Neotoma tools (store, retrieve_entities, retrieve_entity_by_identifier) should appear in Continue's Context Providers → MCP section. Ask Continue to call retrieve_entities to confirm live access.
